Totally spaced this, not really a fill

To be honest, I was doing a bit of research for something I'm working on, but I didn't do any actual writing. Things have been really, well, out of the ordinary recently. I need to write a post in my journal on that. But for now, here's a little bit from my orig fic, written recently but not too recently. I'm not sure it's going to stay in, if I ever finish this thing, but it's a fun little bit.

“I’m working with what I got.” Dipping her fingers into the glass to wet them, Lara sprinkled wine over the circle whilst muttering under her breath.

“What’s that now?” Vera asked.

Lara continued muttering and spreading wine about her lounge for another ten seconds, then turned to her friend. “A protection spell I got from Terry in the shop down on Wilkins.”

“But your instructions don’t say to do it.”

Lara shrugged. “I figured it couldn’t hurt.”

“Really?” asked Kit. “I’d think mixing two spells or whatever you call them would be bad. Like crossing the streams. Or putting whipped cream on a steak.”

“It’s not that bad,” Lara stated with a soothing smile. “They’re both protective, the circle and the spell. They’ll synergise and be a lot stronger together.”

“Maybe if the star had five points instead of six,” Kit muttered under her breath. With a tiny grin, she shrugged and returned to her nails. She knew she was getting to Lara’s limits with this good-natured teasing. Lara really believed in magic and witchcraft, that a few well-chosen words and a dribbling of blood (collected from the leavings after broiling a steak, of course) could summon up the powers of nature, and though she tolerated the jokes that Kit and Vera hurled at her, everyone had their point where the ribbing started to hurt. And honestly, it hadn’t been a bad hen night at all. Whenever Lara insisted on an occult theme, she supplied plenty of wine, and they’d spent a couple of hours already laughing at the future wealth and romance that her tarot deck had predicted. Apparently Dealing the Future: Interpreting Tarot in Five Easy Steps envisioned Kit meeting her future husband whilst riding a camel. It hadn’t been clear on exactly which of them would be riding the camel, or where she might encounter one, as she’d never been out of northern Europe in her life. Perhaps it meant she’d be going on more visits to the zoo. But say what you like: at least Lara provided a bit of a change from the usual pub fare.

That was a fun little tid-bit.

And you never know on the camels. There's a guy in Europe that drives them!

I like it!

( just based on the pieces you’ve posted, I kind of meaning to ask- is Lara the only magic user?)
