The TARDIS nursery was definitely something Charley hadn't expected to find, but it was a welcome sight. It was after midnight, or what could be considered midnight when one has a time machine, and here sat the Edwardian adventuress in a rocking chair trying her best to get a fussy toddler Time Lord to go to sleep.

"Oh honestly Doctor" she said, rather frustrated "It's late and I would greatly appreciate it if you'd go to sleep!"

The wispy-haired Time Toddler just looked up at her , his eyes big. "Not sleep" he said simply "Story." 

As Charley searched through the selection on the nearest bookshelf, her mind couldn't help but go to how this had happened...

Charley watched on as several robed creatures surrounded the Doctor, muttering in a language the TARDIS didn't seem to want to translate.

"What are you doing to him?" she'd asked.

"A simple process of renewal" one of the creatures responded. " We bring the mind back to its most pure and docile state.  A state of incorruptibility and peace. And in some cases,  the body will follow.  Oh, it seems the ritual is complete."

The creatures stepped away, satisfied with their progress, while Charley looked to see her friend now replaced with a rather wiggly toddler in too-big clothes.

Charley peered at the book.  It was Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Well at least it was something she knew. Opening it, she began to read while the Doctor continued to fight off the urge of sleep.  " Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank,..."
