O, hi! Resurfacing after Miniwrimo. I managed to log 17,881 words for the month, exceeding my 300 word a day goal and managing to average 596 words, low count was 304, highest was 4270, which was mostly transcribing an hour and a half or so dictating I did during a long drive to and from some clients. I think I managed to figure out what is going to happen during the three month gap I've been staring at. I was initially thinking it was going to be nothing much interesting and then this bit came out and I'm still trying to think of how it's going to affect the rest of the story.

This takes place a couple weeks before the end of the third and final term at Engama.

I don't know if I'll be finished come the end of December, but I'm closer than I was this time last year that is for sure! Closing in on 300 pages, which is exciting.

So how did November treat you all? I'm hoping to be a little more active here as I near the end of FFK and get ready to send it off to my client who is an editor and publisher. I have to get it a bit more finished first, but wish me luck.

I was needing to rewrite this bit as I re-figured where exactly Engama sits within a little sheltered valley at the end of a canyon.

I'm going to try hard to share something each week here.

Kallon has some serious PTSD to work through and has an incident as he travels with Yurrein to Lunais with the other Lunaisan hybrids. I doubt it's Kallon's first night terror, but it's the first one I've written about.

This is kind of revisiting challenge 111 with a fight scene.

(Human Nature...this kind of got long)
They were running again.  With a blast of sparks and energy close on their tail, the Doctor and Martha frantically raced into the TARDIS.
"Get down!" the Doctor exclaimed, rapidly slamming the door.
Still a bit frantic, Martha did just that.
"Did they see you?" the Doctor asked urgently.
"I don't know" Martha replied, unsure.  It had felt like they'd been running from these things for days now.
"But did they see you?" the Doctor asked again, his tone more grave this time.
"I don't know, I was too busy running!"

"Martha, it's important" the Doctor started. He was halfway to the console already, probably deciding their next destination. "Did they see your face?"
Martha barely had a second to reason. "No they couldn't have." she said at last.
The Doctor started pressing buttons and switches on the console. "Off we go!" he proclaimed as they set off. But his expression quickly turned to frustration.  "They're following us!" He said, letting out a rather exasperated grunt.
Now Martha was confused. "How can they do that? You've got a time machine."  These things couldn't chase them into a different time...could they?
"Stolen technology" the Doctor explained, the mechanisms in his brain already turning in thought. This only meant they were in more trouble than before. "They've got a Time Agent's vortex manipulator . They can follow us wherever we go-right across the universe. They're never going to stop. Unless..." A thought came to the Doctor.  It was something he'd always assumed would be a last resort,  something he'd done once before and never expected to repeat. "I'll have to do it." He said finally, then turned to his companion. "Martha, you trust me , don't you?"
"Of course I do." She told him, wondering where this was going.  Was he going to drop her off home? Or have her do something lethal to him? Knowing the Doctor by now, there were always possibilities.  But she did trust him.
"Because it all depends on you."

Notes: Average Getier height in their human forms is beetween 5'4" and 5'8" (add a couple inches for ears in their half form) so interiors tend to not be much more than 6' especially when they're carving into the rock. Sray is somewhere between 5'10" and 6' (haven't made and official decision on that yet) because she is hybrid.

Klamon have a split sleeping pattern, being especially active around sunrise and sunset and sleeping in the afternoons and late at night for anywhere from three to five hours at a time.

Near the end of Fire Forged Key. It's a really big map that served no purpose other than Ranika Mishor wanted to make it.

This past week boys have been out of schook for fall break which means both more and less time to do things! Still hacking away at the novel, managed to crest 200 pages! I feel so accomplished, we'll see if I'm 2/3 or 4/5 of the way through ... probably the former.

Pretty much all my writing right now fits in the WIP category because it's centered around FFK (except for my detours to the 2nd and 3rd book ...)

O, hey guys! Still pounding away on the novel so I'm definitely getting my minutes in, if not related to the challenges. Doesn't help my work hours have exploded so I'm having to eek time in even moreso than usual.

More poetry! Playing with rhyme structure. Can't really blame Tos for this one, but I'm pretty sure the plains in question are Tromar.

The plains sway under the gusts of wind
the sun burns harsh and bright
summer drought plauges the land
thirst for rain on every mind
each cloud eagerly watched
willing for it to drop
hope fades with the sun to save the crop
the moon rises, shadow-notched
farmers sleep feeling resigned
thunder rolls as if God's hand
struck the land with all his might
rain falls, bringing it all to an end.

Still writing a bunch in my novel, but decided to take a brief break for some purple prose! This scene (if it were in the book) would be towards the end of chapter one.

The purple prose made me realize that while I am sometimes verbose, I am not that verbose!

Short snippet that may never go anywhere, but given their importance to the history of Alast it was just a matter of time before I wrote something involving Jorgin Kamelo'an and Tsalgohn Kteslay, the Envawnan Human man and Zegdaen Klamon woman who get credit for banishing the dragons from Alast. Not 100% sure what happened, but I suspect something went wrong and people died and Jorgin is feeling a bit guilty about what they've gotten themselves into and are trying to do.

Also! I've crested 100,000 words in my book! Woo! I think I'm somewhere between 2/3 and 3/4 done now, which is super exciting. I haven't been able to work the prompts into where I'm focused on the story right now (except jumping on the WIPs!), but that's okay, I'm sure you all understand!

Y'all get some Tos Savin poetry. Keep in mind I hadn't written poetry since High School before this character came along... and of course he's lovesick.

What is the space between
Where I am and where you've been
What troubles have you seen
When you refused on me to lean

What pain filled my aching heart
When we drifted so far apart
What event was the start
Where did our paths part

What happened to that forgotten time
When I was yours and you were mine
What can I do but long and pine
Where does your soul now shine

It is 110F+ all week, feeling this so much.

The sweat slid down her leg and she irritably rubbed her pant legs together as it distracted her from the task at hand. The faster she could get this done the sooner she could retreat to the shade. Her clothing felt extra heavy and clung oddly to her sweat-slick skin as she moved. The breeze didn't help as it blew like the open mouth of a furnace, sucking away moisture without actually cooling. The ground felt like its own sun as it radiated back what the sun was giving and seeped through her thin-soled shoes.

Things to note: Yurrein Nelendor and Torrick Mawshinor (he has a full name now!), Torrick is Yurrein's first cousin. The Lunaisans hybrids follow their last names on their mother's side so either their fathers were brothers or it was brother/sister since their last names aren't the same, still fuzzy on that part.

I wrote a scene forever ago with Sray meeting a dragon and its rider. Of course I wasn't thinking as much about languages and possible barriers at the time so it was much different than this.

Yes, telepathic dragons, like that's never been done before ... I doubt I ever mentioned that watching the movie "Eragon" was what got me diving back into Lemy'es again, which was initially a thinly veiled Pern-like fan universe I started back in 1998 I think? Lots of evolving since then. Of course, the dragons don't really show up until book three now ... I have a lot of writing to do before then.
