"So this is what you've been working on?" the Australian asked.

Nyssa turned away from the computer bank she'd been furiously typing data into. "Yes, it's a kind of modeling program using non-coordinate geometry to simulate patterns in the universe."

"Right," said Tegan. She stared blankly at the screen. "I like the...colors."

"Ah there you both are" began the Doctor, entering from a corridor to the left.  "Nyssa, how goes progress on your program?"

"You knew about it?" asked Tegan.

"Indeed" the Time Lord answered. "Do you know, I've always been fascinated by the intricacies of geometric patterns, Reminds me of the time I spent with the ancient Greeks."

Nyssa nodded. "It reminds me of the geometric sonatas back on Traken. Like the piece Father would play for my stepmother-"

The Trakenite paused. noticing her friend's expression. "I'm sorry Tegan,  are we boring you?"

"No!" the Australian responded. "Well, it's just...this has never been my cup of tea. I had enough trouble understand that binary code and why my cousin got so excited about his new computer.  Couldn't wait to show me all it could do. But if you'll excuse me, I think I'm going to go see if Turlough's left the wardrobe room intact before we land anywhere."

(Notes- The Trakenite geometrical sonatas are mentioned in the audio Demons of Red Lodge (the second story, in a rather sweet scene). And Tegan not getting binary comes from Children of Seth.  Also...wow technobabble is hard! )

Since we just watched "Snakedance"...

“That is really quite fascinating, Director,” Tanha gushed as she held up her cup so the nearby servant could fill it with more wine. “I had no idea that there was such a long gap between the fall of the Manussan Empire and the establishment of the Sumaran Empire. Did you know that, Lon?”

Her fair-haired son pushed the food around on his plate with lazy pokes of his fork. “No, Mother,” he drawled, his head drooping to one shoulder, “I certainly did not.”

Ambril sat a bit taller, his nose lifted as he replied. “It is not commonly known, my lady. We have precious few records from that period, and not enough evidence to teach any of it in the schools. It is of paramount importance that we teach truth and not allow rumours and legends to multiply.”

Tanha nodded. “The Federator is of the same mind, I assure you, Director. Education is most important, don’t you agree, Lon?”

“Yes, Mother.” Neither his mother nor Ambril saw him roll his eyes. Lon pushed himself straight and waved for a servant to bring him another plate of food to play with.

Tanha leant toward Ambril. “To be honest,” she said in a conspiratorial whisper behind a shielding hand, “I paid scant heed to my tutors. Dry as dust, they were. Even a fly buzzing about the room held my attention better than they.”

Ambril laughed. “I am not surprised, my lady. Lecturers never do seem to realise how much they put their audience off their subject, now do they?”

Lon leapt up. “Please excuse me,” he sputtered and sprinted off toward the lavatory, his spate of coughing sounding suspiciously like laughter.

"I still don't understand why we had to come to this...establishment" said Nyssa. "Isn't there tea in the TARDIS?"

" It's a tearoom, Nyssa" the Time Lord explained, picking up a scone, "And if memory serves, they do a marvelous cream tea." The Doctor sipped his steaming cup. "I cam here once with Liz Shaw and-"

The Doctor suddenly began to cough, his face becoming pale.

Nyssa put down the spoon of cream she'd been applying to her scones. "Doctor," she began worriedly "Are you all right?"

"Salicylic acid!" he exclaimed in between coughs.

"In the tea?"

More coughing before the Doctor managed to answer. "In mine, at least. It's lethal to a Time Lord. Someone is trying to-"

He collapsed.

"Doctor?" asked Nyssa.  His pulse was growing weaker. The important thing now was keeping him alive.

---

It took help, but Nyssa got the unconscious Time Lord back to the TARDIS.
Around an hour later, the Time Lord slowly opened his eyes to see the Trakenite bringing him a tray.

"Nyssa," he said, still groggy. "Where am I?"

"You're in the TARDIS medical bay" she answered before setting down the tray "I've been doing some research. And this choc-olate might help. And" she gestured to a cup of orange liquid "this can provide nutritional stimulants. The food machine called it Tang."

"Ah yes," the Doctor noted, eating a bit of the chocolate. "I was there when the astronauts took some to space. Oh, Nyssa, before you go.."

"Yes Doctor?"

"Thank you for... well, saving my life."

Write a scene with three people where two of them are having a good time and the third is becoming increasingly bored and/or annoyed.

Ideas:

Nyssa and Tegan are shopping and the Doctor is toting the bags.
Martha, Tish, and Leo are driving up to Glasgow; Tish and Leo are singing to the radio and Martha is sick of it.
Bill and Heather at dinner with a third OC friend; the couple are fixated on each other and the third wheel really wants out.
