(This is actually kind of hard)

Jason sipped at his coffee, adding a little more sugar and stirring it a few times with the little stick. "I'm, really glad you came" he said, nervously looking across the table towards Mandy.

" Well we both have a test on Friday" she replied, setting her own coffee down and pulling out her Literature textbook.  " Maybe we should get started." She flipped through a few pages.  "So Pride and Prejudice is pretty romantic. What did you think of the symbolism of..."

Jason was miles away once Mandy said 'romantic.'  Finishing his coffee, he absently played with the cup on the table. While Mandy kept going on about Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, something else caught his attention.  "Oh you hair's a little bit...I'll get it" he said, brushing back the strand away from her face.

"Thanks?" Mandy said,  a bit surprised.   "So anyway,  I was thinking about the ending.  What did you think ?"

Jason was, this time, trying to focus.  If he was being honest, he could listen to Mandy talk for hours.  But he would never tell her that, at least not out loud of course.  " I'm glad they got together" he said finally,  "And speaking of,  ....could we Maybe do this again?" He said, stumbling a bit over his words,  "I mean,  when we start poetry next week?"

I'm going to try to do occasional more "focused" challenges, as I described in the sticky/profile. One of the problems I have with writing regularly is that I don't know what to write, and if I have to come up with something to write about, I just kind of, well, don't. Like "write your two characters talking about their feelings" - that's so open, I sit there thinking, "Which characters? What feelings should they be discussing - love, hate, about someone else, their thoughts about nachos?"

I'm not going to do that all the time, because I think this comm is better with variety in the prompts, but this is one of those times. :)

Write a couple of paragraphs of a scene where your two characters are in a restaurant eating together but not on a date, and at least one of them is trying to subtly express romantic interest in the other. Be sure to not hop heads between the two characters - POV should be either neutral or biased toward a single character.

So, I did almost the exact opposite of what the challenge asked, because I was working on one of my WIPs. At least I got a little of that done. :)
