(Less taking a third option and more of "thing that didn't happen but I kind of wish it did" Divergent of The Eleventh Hour . And if you know I'm staying on brand with choice of companion ;)) (First attempt at these two so apologies if voices are off)

For a moment, she wondered if the raggedy- looking man had just been a dream, or if he was really going to come back.

She was about ready to go back inside (figuring her aunt was starting to wonder where she was) when there came that funny noise again.  And now in the garden was the police box, and the raggedy man running out towards her.

"You came back" she said, mystified.

"Course I did" the Doctor answered, "Five minute hop was all I needed. Now, about the crack in your wall, there's something I think could fix it."

They were off.   He'd been right, it was a time machine.  One day, he'd guided her to the scanner in the console room. What she saw left her wide-eyed.

"That, Amelia Pond, is the Eye of Orion" he'd told her.

"What?"

"One of my favourite places in the universe. "

Eventually he did get her home. But it had been fun- like Pan and Wendy. Or in this case, like a girl with fairytale name and the man who ate fish custard. (but not apples)

Since we're talking about tropes,  let's do a little thing...

Subverting, in a way.

Take a scene from an existing TV episode/ book / whatever.  Preferably an action bit or the climax. And play a little what if game in your head.

What if this had a Bad Ending (or depending on the scene, a Good Ending) or What if (this character ) Took a Third Option in solving the problem? And write a bit of the actual scene or the aftermath.
