She’d never been to a posh restaurant before, or even one that could be called upscale, and she closed her eyes to breathe in the atmosphere. A low murmur floated all around her, broken by the clinks of glassware and cutlery against fine china. A few words in pretentious accents broke through now and again, drawling out opinions on law, politics, and high society. The aroma of fresh seafood, the house specialty seasoned with lemon and exotic spices, filled the air but couldn’t quite mask the heady smell of genuine roses in the table’s centerpiece. Her fingers slid over the smooth cool silk of the tablecloth, which she guessed cost more than her month’s wages alone.

Choose your character and take them somewhere. Have them close their eyes, then write a couple of paragraphs of what they're hearing, smelling, and possibly feeling in that location.
Remember, show, don't tell. You could write, "A car drove by, honking its 'Dixie' horn", but that's not what they're really hearing. (Not to mention, they can't see, so how do they know it's a car and not a truck?) "The bench shook under her as a massive vehicle rumbled by, trumpeting 'Dixie'."
