This is an idea I've had for awhile.  I'm still playing with it so here's just a little.

Somewhat inspired by this incredible gifset.  ( I don't think there's major spoilers)  at.tumblr.com/thisbluespirit/bunnykillian-killian-jones-vs-the-real-world/d732kbk0td9p  .  And headcanons myself and PawShapedHeart have talked about.
I
don't know what this trope is called but I love it.

-------

For a pirate, Killian Jones (or Captain Hook, as he was mainly known) wasn't stupid.  You could ask Belle at the library, he'd devour books.  But there were still things that were a mystery.  And Emma was trying her hardest to explain them as best she could.

He was still not used to the "talking phone" Emma insisted on him carrying everywhere,  or shy there were all these bloody mad birds on the phone.  But he knew if he pressed the Emma button, she'd usually answer.  And he'd discovered some rather brilliant things on that "magic box" (Computer )in Henry's room.  Emma still recalled the day he found Amazon.

"Swan!" He'd called , full of enthusiasm.  "This is bloody brilliant! It's like the bazaars of Agrabah!"

But then,  there was the Alexa.  Hook had faced mermaids,  giant squids, and even the Crocodile.  But this little blue device on top of the coffee table was a nemesis he hadn't expected.

The first time he'd seen the lights go off and on automatically, the pirate grew apprehensive.  Then he heard the thing speak.

"Love, there's a spirit in the house named Alexa!" He'd ran into the kitchen the next afternoon. "I suggest we vacate immediately!"

Write a short scene of someone struggling with technology. Now, you might ask, what do I mean by "technology"? Any physical object (in other words, not magic) that's above the average level for the world or society in the scene. For example, in the contemporary U.S., your character could be trying to work an M249 - an average American might know how to use a handgun, but a specialized machine gun is a higher tech level. Similarly, in a medieval society, your character may be trying to use (or design!) the first printing press.

The focus should be on conveying the character's confusion, frustration, or sense of wonder (depending on how you interpret the scene), and not necessarily on the details. However, if you do include details, you should attempt to verify that they're correct, e.g., if you have the character pull a lever on that printing press, make sure that printing presses from that era have levers. ;)
