"And you're sure where we're going is safe?" asked Nyssa.

"I'll take anything over what just happened in Amsterdam" said Tegan, " As long as there's no Master or Cybermen or anything."

The Doctor pressed a few buttons on the console. "Quite sure.  The planet Retila is absolutely-"

The Time Lord's expression suddenly got far-off, as though he had been distracted.

"Doctor, are you all right?" asked the Trakenite.

"I-I'm [Milton} , Nyssa" he answered, still trying to input co-ordinates "[The chemicals and supernova] -oh."

Tegan gave Nyssa a confused look. "What's he going on about?"

"Oh dear, " replied Nyssa sadly "I think something may be [ nocturnal] with the [ green groves and cave]."

"Now you're doing it!" Tegan exclaimed "Am I going to be talking gibberish soon? Like some kind of...space virus?"

"It's not [ protozoa], Tegan" , the Doctor tried to say "Nysxa was saying there's [electrical current in waveforms]! "

"Rabbits" muttered the Australian. then she addressed the TARDIS. "Look, I've never done this before, but those two say you can hear me. Is there some kind of clue you can give to what's wrong with them? "

The console gave several, what could be described as comforting, beeps before the screen changed. In place of co-ordinates,there was text reading TARDIS TRANSLATION CIRCUIT ERROR and alphabets in various languages.

Tegan gave a silent thank-you to the ship and pulled her traveling companions over to see the screen. "Is this what you two meant?"

The Time Lord and Trakenite nodded.

"Well can you fix it? Or at least enough to where I can guess what you're saying?"

(Notes- There's really no meaning to the bracket text, other than trying to do something like Google Translate. :) Since there's not an official way to write out Gallifreyan or the Trakenite language.

Donna took a moment to catch her breath, winded as she was from chasing after the bandits’ wagon for the past two miles. When she finally stopped panting enough to see think clearly, she peered out from her hiding place at the treeline into the clearing. Two of them, armed with long knives sheathed on their legs, stood guard by the door of a small windowless hut while the other three readied their camp. They hadn’t yet enough time to start a fire to ward off the rapidly approaching twilight.

Donna frowned. With their helmets off, she could now see that they were all very young; she wondered, had this been at home, if they’d even qualify to leave school. For what reason were they assaulting and kidnapping travellers?

The Doctor’s location was obvious. From his sometimes off-key whistling and the clinking of metal issuing from the hut, punctuated by occasional delighted observations of the indigenous insect life, Donna could picture him strolling about, his ankles and wrists in chains, inspecting every fascinating detail. That man could find beauty in the direst situation.

She retreated into the shadows and picked her way through the trees to the other side of the clearing. She looked out and smiled. Her target was readily apparent, and the soft grass should muffle the sounds of her movement, especially with the racket the Doctor was making. She pulled the sonic screwdriver from her pocket and stepped out of the trees.

The moment she touched the solid rock wall of the hut, she bent and slipped the sonic through the single hole located at knee-height, made apparent by the torchlight shining from it. The device was pulled from her grasp and as it began to trill, the whistling shifted: rather than “Baby Come Round”, the tune was now “Stop”. Donna nodded and froze. As the front door of the hut banged open and the Doctor ordered the boys to stand down so that he could get to the meat of their problem, she laughed silently at the thought that the great universe-travelling Time Lord seemed to know more about the Spice Girls than she herself did.

 For this challenge,

Since we did just dialogue, let's flip it a little.

Write a scene where two or more characters must find a different way to communicate with each other. (e.g. the translation circuit is broken, they're far away from each other,  nonverbal communication, etc)
