(Was thinking about Martha earlier while cleaning. I haven't rewatched this 3 parter in a few years, so going off the Transcript. But I was thinking about her exit. So Pre- her appearances in s4)
"I'll see you again, mister."
Martha's mind raced a little as she left. It was kind of overwhelming to think "one trip" turned into...however many days? Months? How does it work with a Time machine? She'd seen Shakespeare, New York (twice, sort of), the 1960s, ... saw her mate become a human and fall in love. That one had been hard; in more ways than one.
Question was: where to go from here? She could go home, try to deal with her family. Going back to the hospital would mean having to answer a lot of questions about where she'd been and how she'd missed an exam or two. You can't exactly explain "Walked the Earth for a year and saved the world " on an essay and expect it to count. Best option? Take it a day at a time, like what she'd told several patients countless times. Part of her really hoped the Doctor would be all right, but she figured it had been the best for them both.
So that's what Martha did...one day at a time. Then there was the call from UNIT offering her a job. And then Tom, and eventually wedding planning...
But still, one day. Then the ATMOS happened.
