This is the beginning of the party from “The Lazarus Experiment”, except instead of Ten and Martha, it’s Nine and Rose. Note that the character histories have been switched, so Rose didn’t travel with the Doctor and return back a year later by mistake, and Jackie and Mickey haven’t met the Doctor yet. Instead, Rose met the Doctor when her Henrik’s building got taken to the moon and has just returned to Earth after the Doctor taking her “for just one trip”. Mickey is swapped in for Tish here, having been hired by Lazarus because of his computer skills, to set up the network for the demonstration of his machine.

Seeing her out of the corner of his eye, Mickey tugged on the network cable to test its security, then hopped up just in time to catch her in a hug. “Rose! I didn’t think you got my message.” He pulled back and looked her up and down. “You look amazing! I didn’t know you had a posh dress like that.”
Glancing over her shoulder at the Doctor, she stammered a reply. “Oh, I, er, I borrowed it.”
Following her gaze, Mickey frowned at the unknown man in the olive jumper and worn leather peacoat, out of place among the tuxedos and silk evening gowns. “Who’s this bloke?” he asked, pulling her closer in a protective embrace.
Rose hadn’t prepared an explanation for bringing the Doctor and blurted out, “Er, yeah, he’s my plus-one.”
Anger and jealousy flashed in Mickey’s eyes, and he stepped away from her. “You brought a plus-one. I invite you to a party, and you bring your own date.”
“It’s not like that. We work together.” She beckoned the Doctor forward. “Mickey, this is the Doctor. Doctor, this is Mickey,” she introduced, then added with emphasis to clue the Doctor in, “my boyfriend.”
Grinning brightly, the Doctor thrust a hand out in greeting. “Pleasure, Ricky!”
Mickey eyed the hand but made no move to take it. “You got a doctor in teen girls at Henrik’s?”
“Not ‘together’ together. He does…” Rose couldn’t think of what a doctor might do in a department store, but maybe science might be close enough. “Sales analysis. Maths and things.”
“Oh, you must be a genius to do maths and things,” came a voice behind Rose, and her mother slithered around her to offer the Doctor her hand to kiss. Jackie wore a pale pink gown cut low at the neck and studded with cheap glass beads, and her shining blond hair was twisted into an elaborate updo. She smiled at him coyly. “I’m Jacqueline, Rose’s mother. Let’s leave the kids to the party and get to know each other?”
The Doctor stared at her hand just like Mickey had his a moment earlier. He pursed his lips. “No.”
