"Chris!" Cal hissed. "What are you doing?"
"My scarf!" she called down as she pulled herself up onto the first branch of the oak. "Wind took it right up there, see?"
Cal's eyes followed her pointing finger to the blue scrap of cloth fluttering among the leaves. "You're going to fall."
"I'm not going to fall," she answered with a petulant sigh. "You never think I can do anything. I've climbed this tree dozens of times. Hundreds." She grabbed the branch above her and tested its strength as she planned her path upwards.
"While you're in trainers, maybe, but not in sandals." He reached up to grab her ankle to coax her down, but she pulled up her foot just in time. "Leave it. I'll buy you new one after the luncheon."
"Almost got it," she squeaked as she stretched for it and missed. "Just a bit more and -"
