Write a couple of paragraphs of something that happened to you, as if you were starting to write a story about that event. Remember, when you write in first-person, especially when you're writing yourself in first-person, you need to convey not only the actual events, but also the narrator's history and personality through what they say and how they say it, because the reader doesn't know the narrator and is getting acquainted with them through the story.
Also remember that while the event is something from your own life, *you* don't need to be the narrator. The narrator character (and therefore their style, voice, history, and personality) can be anything you choose. You could insert a different character for yourself, or you can tell the event from the point of view of someone else who was there (or wasn't there!), or even from the point of view of an object in the room.
