Couple notes: Yurrein Nelendor is also a Klamon hybrid, but his status is under wraps still. The Family refers to a whole group of hybrid Kalmon that Yurrein is a part of.
"Do you know what these are?" Sray questioned as he rolled out the leather case, exposing its contents. She reached her hand out to touch the edge of the case with reverence.
"Judging by your reaction I take it you know exactly what they are." Yurrein replied, smoothing the ends so that it all lay flat on the table before he sat across from her.
"How did you get them?" She questioned.
"Well," he began, "you know I have some interest in the Kalmon."
Sray let out a soft snort of a laugh. "Are you worried someone might be listening?"
"The canvas is thin," he reminded her with a pointed look before giving a little shake of his head and refocusing on his prior thought. "Anyway," he waved his hand dismissively, "there are still places that hold some remnants of what the Klamon left behind. I found this while digging through some old records, trying to find some Family history, you know?" He raised his brows as he emphasized "Family," Sray knew exactly what he was referring to. "I tucked it away knowing we would be meeting again soon and was hoping you could enlighten me."
"You found them among Meim records?" She asked, surprised.
He nodded. "No idea how it got there. I suspect it survived wrapped up in its case because no one knew what it was. A random roll of leather among hundreds of records," he shrugged, "a lucky accident I guess."
Sray took a deep breath and then blew at her bangs as she fingered the first finely carved tool tucked in its leather loop. "These," she pushed it gently out of the loop towards her, "these are Getie'an symbols." She held the narrow, delicate piece of carved hardwood between her fingers, brushing her thumb carefully across the burned-in etching. "This is Vay, the Getie'an alphabet consist of the individual letters and then 23 symbols representing core concepts that are important to the foundation of our culture and beliefs. The symbol is at the top here and then down the sides are the individual letters followed by words," she rolled the piece in her hands as the writing spiraled along its length, joining at its flattened tip. "Vay means, well, the short of it is 'connection,' but it's really more than that, it's what binds everything together, family, energy, the connection points of the universe, what binds us together. The writing here, it's ... gosh, it's beautiful. I've never actually held these, I was too young and Tafa, he wasn't trained for the spiritual rites."
"So they're for religious ceremonies?" Yurrein asked.
She slid the next one out, frowning at it slightly. "Something like that." She said distractedly. "They're not in the proper order. This is Mit. It means chance or luck." Her brow furrowed in concentration.
"What is it?" He asked.
She leaned over the table and stared at the third one from the end. "La, that's La, putting back the way things were, restoration." She carefully slid the other two back where she had found them. "They belong in a very specific order when not in use. Either someone tampered with them or there is a message in here."
"If anyone messed with them it was a very long time ago." Yurrein said.
