( So this is kind of an old idea where it's basically Five and Nyssa in Human Nature.  I do not know if I want to develop this or not)

The school was massive.  That had been Nyssa's initial reaction not long after their arrival.   This place, a place for much learning and academia seemed to be mainly populated by hordes of raucous teenagers.  It had taken some getting used to , Nyssa's wardrobe had been limited before ( thanks to the TARDIS replicator) but now it seemed she was meant to wear a sort of uniform.

What had been the oddest change and the hardest to get used to was how her relationship with the Doctor had changed.

One afternoon, she'd stayed after his class .

"How was I?" He'd asked her,  casually going through the pile of test papers on his desk.  " I wasn't too dull today?"

"No, you were fine, Doctor... I mean, uncle" Nyssa had answered.  It was still hard to get used to that-  the Doctor had once called their relationship "Nothing so easily defined", but here it was simple. She was his niece.

But there was still something off about this whole situation.   Nyssa couldn't really explain it,  but a part of her knew they had to keep it up at least for now.   If it meant both of them being safe.

(Note: there's a paraphrase kind of a quote from the audio Circular Time)

I think you've done other bits of this story concept before, haven't you? I thought I remembered something like this. I think it's a fine idea, but the hard part will be figuring out the point of the story - what it is about putting Five and Nyssa into this situation that makes it a story worth telling. I've read a bunch of Human Nature fics with Ten and Donna that were intended for the experience to make them realize they were in love, for example. (Of course, that meant that the Family and John's struggles with sacrificing himself to save the world took a backseat to the romance plot.) I think it's a fun exercise to think about, but without knowing what it is you want to say, it'll be very difficult to motivate yourself to finish it.

I think that's the main reason I've never done a Human Nature story. I've done tons with the chameleon arch, but I just can't think of what I'd do with Human Nature that would be something that Paul Cornell didn't already do better.
