(Time Placement- Gap filler! One of the annual trips not shown)
“Merry Christmas!” The Doctor and Kazran chorused, practically leaping out of the TARDIS towards Abigail.
“Doctor!” Abigail exclaimed, her face beaming in delight. Thought it had become tradition by now, the young woman couldn’t help but feel a flurry of excitement and wonder at where they were going this year.
“So where is this?” Abigail asked, feeling the familiar sensation as the ship landed.
Kaxzran nervously ran a hand through his mop of brown hair. “ The Doctor and I… sort of , had an idea.” he tried to explain.
“Yes!” the Doctor’s youthful grin was infectious as he opened the doors. “ Well, Kazran reminded me, Abigail likes the fish! So! “ He was talking a mile a minute. “ Thought to myself, somewhere new. It’s a floating ocean out there. Right, let’s go!”
It wasn’t long before Abigail was lying on the soft purple seaweed, looking up. The Doctor hadn’t been wrong- they were in a floating ocean! All around them fish of every possible size and colour swam freely. Abigail admitted to laughing a bit when one nipped at Kazran’s toes in a sign of greeting. ( Kazran was a little less amused)
“It’s beautiful” she breathed, watching the sea life surround her, coalescing in a sort of dance in the air.
“I thought you’d like it” Kazran said, lying next to her and extending a hand to take hers.
“ Lovely , isn’t it! Better than that stodgy Cloud Belt! Billions more things to see” the Doctor noted, petting a big green guppy on the head as if it was a kitten.
“Doctor, I’d like… to just have a moment…” Kazran tried to interject nervously.
Still petting the guppy, the Doctor was lost in his thoughts. “Oh. Oh! Course! Meet you back at the TARDIS.”
As the couple lay back, feeling the seaweed brush against them both, Abigail looked over at Kazran. He wasn’t at all like his father. As she muttered a “thank you” to him, something in her heart longed to spend as many Christmases as she had left with him.
