( Trying something new! I've been reading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz recently and as of now am nearly halfway through. It's pretty great actually. I don't know if I'll keep this or post it somewhere but have a Double Drabble )
orothy watches her friends closely as they traverse along the road of yellow brick. Her eyelids are growing gradually heavier. Oh, how long have they been on this journey? It feels like weeks at this point. And she's starting to tire of eating nothing vut nuts and the occasional bits of fruit the Scarecrow has found for her.
They must be getting closer now... To the Emerald City. And one step closer to going home. As flat and grey as Kansas could be, it was at moments like this. Moments when the sun had gone down and where the three of them have nowhere to pass the night. Where she misses it the most. She tries to sleep in a patch of grass the Lion found earlier- thankfully free of poppies! But her tears begin to fall.
The Scarecrown and Tin Woodsman and Lion have been a comfort. And Toto is currently nestled at her feet. Perhaps tomorrow, they'll be even closer- they crossed the river after all. And made it through the perilous forest. But a part of her just can't shake the desire to go home. Whoever this Oz is, she hopes he has enough power to help.
