Fill: Challenge #16 (Original)

So today's fill is from working on my origfic, so it requires a little background. Kit is a normal human who has just recently found out that magic exists - she accidentally summoned an otherworldly creature to serve as her bodyguard. Alex is that otherworldly creature, called a keror, who has the ability to shapeshift into a human. This snippet only lightly addresses their flaws, so I'll just tell you what they are: Kit is confident in her own knowledge and is slow to adapt when something upsets her worldview (such as, maybe, magic...? This causes a lot of the problems in the first half of the story.). Alex, coming from a species with a regimented hierarchy (in which he's pretty much the bottom), has no imagination and cannot make decisions for himself.

The end part is mostly dialogue. I'll go back later and fill in the descriptions.

(Trying for something like an episode prologue. I borrowed the name you thought of-just changed the last name a little. :) Professor X is the in-universe DW.  )
 The holo-video screen was alive with static and colors as Jahar Orian hurriedly pressed buttons in an attempt to get it working. Finally, the static gave way to the video she was expecting. The middle-age Jarit sat down to watch.

[ The screen showed a hodgepodge of colorful lights as a crowd of people and aliens looked expectantly as several woman of varying species floated across an antigrav catwalk. As they floated, a news reporter in an Earth News Network shuttle circled around, taking holo-snaps of the crowd and contestants. 

"We interrupt our planet-wide marathon of Professor X to bring you coverage of the 34th annual Miss Galactic pageant Contestants from all over this galaxy are competing tonight for that well sought-after title of Most Beautiful Women.  Oh! It looks like the judges have made their decision. And our winner is...Jahar Orian of the Jarit colony world!" 

A younger Jahar, her blue skin sparkling, descended through the crowd as loads of camera and holo-recorders captured her on film. 

"We will return with a few words with our winner after this message from-"]

The holo-video stopped there.  Looking down at her fading blue skin and thin green hair, Jahar now addressed her AI assistant , who was currently hovering near her head. 

"PIM," she began "Identify what that was."

"The Miss Galactic Pageant , ma'am" answered the AI "Where you were crowned the most-"

"Beautiful woman in the galaxy, yes thank you PIM" Jahar finished, rather irritated. It was hard to believed that was only ten years ago.

"Anything else, ma'am?" asked PIM.

"Yes," Jahar's voice became sticky-sweet "Take my picture."
