(So this is kind of "Farewell Tour fic" , So not exactly the challenge, but still fun to imagine)
The hospital was abuzz with activity that night. The chatter of staff and the noise of procedures and tests could be heard throughout the building.
And in one operating room, Dr. Grace Holloway was in the middle of surgery.
"You're going to be fine" she whispered to the unfortunate patient, "We're just checking your vitals and-"
At that moment, a young nurse dressed head to toe in scrubs came through the door.
"Dr. Holloway, I'm sorry to interrupt" the nurse began, "But you have a visitor waiting in the tea room. A Dr. Bowman, he says it's very important."
No, Grace thought, there was no way it could be him.
She frantically headed out the door, calling to one of her fellow doctors. "I'll be back. Can you take over?"
Making her way down the hall towards the tea room, Grace's thoughts raced. It had been a year since she last saw him, all that business with The Master and Lee and everything, But she'd never forgotten the offer he'd given to go with him.
"Hello Grace" came a quiet voice she didn't recognize.
Standing in the tea room was not the curly-haired young man but a thin man with spiked hair dressed in a brown suit. But still there was something rather unmistakable about him Grace couldn't help but recognize.
"Doctor?" she asked, unsure.
He gave her a small smile. "How long has it been? Since well, the New Years Eve where-"
"I killed you." she finished for him, "About a year. I didn't think I'd see you again."
"What? Me?" the Doctor asked, embracing her. "I always try to come back. So tell me, what's mu favorite cardiologist been up to?"
"It's been pretty unbelievable for me" she said "I've been trying to study more, see if there's any new breakthroughs I can implement. Are you still traveling?"
The Doctor nodded, before taking a seat at a small table in the tea room. "Oh, yes! Well, always traveling. Saving planets, meeting new people. But-" At this, his expression changed to more somber. "I'm dying, Grace. There's this whole...thing with radiation."
Grace was shocked. It definitely seemed like Deja vu.
"And you came to me why?" the cardiologist asked, " You want my help?"
The Doctor shook his head. "No, I'm going to change. Like the last time. But I wanted to see you again."
Right then, Grace's pager beeped. "I've got to get back" she said. "Open heart patient."
The Doctor had already gotten up to leave. "I understand. But , if you're ever interested, the offer to come with me is still on."
