Another quikfic. This meeting is really boring.

Blue Rain AU. Javik is a character who I've already planned but won't appear until the third or fourth novel, if I ever write any more novels in this AU. (I already know what the second and third novels will be about, but I can't seem to actually get the plots together enough to write them.)

Write a scene where one character must communicate something to another without anyone else knowing. In specific:

  • There should be at least one other character present (though you only need to make it clear that someone else is there to possibly intercept the message; they don't have to actually do or say anything in your scene).
  • The narrator should be neutral, not in the head of either character. The scene is about how they communicate, not about one of them thinking, "How am I going to let that person know?" "Will they understand what I really mean?" or "Well, that was weird, I wonder what she meant?"
  • You only need to let the reader know that the communication was sent and/or received. The reader doesn't need to know what the message actually was.

There are lots of different ways to do this. You could have one of them say something in an odd way that tips off the receiver that words that were chosen have a different meaning. In a Stargate episode I just watched, one character was bidding another farewell and grasped her hands like he was shaking them and passed a note to her secretly. It could simply be a wink, letting the receiver know it's time to execute his part of the plan. You could even do a scene of someone sneaking past a guard into a computer room to send off an email.

( So this is kind of an old idea where it's basically Five and Nyssa in Human Nature.  I do not know if I want to develop this or not)

The school was massive.  That had been Nyssa's initial reaction not long after their arrival.   This place, a place for much learning and academia seemed to be mainly populated by hordes of raucous teenagers.  It had taken some getting used to , Nyssa's wardrobe had been limited before ( thanks to the TARDIS replicator) but now it seemed she was meant to wear a sort of uniform.

What had been the oddest change and the hardest to get used to was how her relationship with the Doctor had changed.

One afternoon, she'd stayed after his class .

"How was I?" He'd asked her,  casually going through the pile of test papers on his desk.  " I wasn't too dull today?"

"No, you were fine, Doctor... I mean, uncle" Nyssa had answered.  It was still hard to get used to that-  the Doctor had once called their relationship "Nothing so easily defined", but here it was simple. She was his niece.

But there was still something off about this whole situation.   Nyssa couldn't really explain it,  but a part of her knew they had to keep it up at least for now.   If it meant both of them being safe.

(Note: there's a paraphrase kind of a quote from the audio Circular Time)
