(Context: Will was trying to avoid sampling a disgusting-looking alien dish, and just got interrupted. The giffra is the eating utensil.)
Original paragraph:
Glad of the reprieve, Will dropped the utensil on the plate and turned to see two women, one bright-eyed with short blond hair and the other with long dark hair and a serious demeanour, trailing behind the first. From the greeting, obviously one was the Doctor, and judging from fashion sense alone, he knew it wasn’t the one in the back.
Edited paragraph:
Glad of the reprieve, Will stabbed his giffra in the mound of nauseating molluscs and pushed his plate away, then turned to the two women approaching their table. The blonde dashed past the other diners, her bright smile all for David, and Will guessed from fashion sense alone that this was the Doctor. The other, a slight young woman with long dark hair and a serious demeanour, trailed behind her.

Date: 2024-06-27 04:02 pm (UTC)This is part of a story where Thirteen comes to tell David about the Timeless Child. While they're talking off-screen, Will gets to talk to Yaz for a bit. I have another WIP where David and Will encounter Fourteen, but I feel like I can't really write that one until I have this one done - I feel like the Timeless Child and the bi-generation are really important to David (for various reasons) and I need to deal with them in chronological order.

Date: 2024-06-28 02:54 pm (UTC)David is not normally in contact with the Doctor, so he knows very little about anything that's happened to him since series 5. In my mind, he has re-encountered Eleven once, met Twelve once (though I have no story planned for this; I do have a story in the works where Twelve is in the background but they don't actually meet), and meets Thirteen once in the above story (could do more, but it would have to be after the Timeless Child obviously and he has not encountered her from Flux forward).
David doesn't know that his Doctor's face returned or that the bi-generation even happened, and though he might have encountered the Flux (he might have been in the far future or distant past through the whole thing), he doesn't know that it had anything to do with the Doctor or the Time Lords.
So, when I say that it's "important" to him, it's not personally important - he's not thinking about it and trying to figure out how it affects him, because he doesn't even know these things thappened. To him, like to all other Time Lords, bi-generation is a myth.
However, Ten came back as Fourteen, and that's his Doctor, the one who created him and the one he's closest to (relationship-wise, not character-wise). Moreover, Fourteen didn't leave - he should have had his fifteen-hour life and died, but he bi-generated and is now retired on Earth. To top that off, Donna's back, with full faculties and with the metacrisis cleansed from her, even though David killed her back in the his first story.
So, I'd think that the return of his Doctor would be pretty important to him (as in, something that he doesn't actually know about but would be something that would greatly enrich his life), and resolving the paradox with Donna using the Toymaker's jigsaw line is important for David's continuity (not to mention helping him resolve his guilt).
