Fill - Challenge 524 (Once upon a time)
Dec. 22nd, 2025 07:27 pm Don't mind me, just over here. Doing an RSS thing. :) But, look! A plan!
So I was talking to @shivver, who mentioned the part in the DW Christmas special with Clara and Danny: the really heartwarming bit that's actually a dream. (I found the transcript). Well, that got part of my brain going and I latched onto the part about the dream and how I could integrate that here.
This is v rough, but ...

Title is pending
Setting- Dark Castle, pre-Curse.
Characters/Pairings- Rumbelle (Rumplestiltskin/Belle), (surprise)
________________________________________
1. Open in Dark Castle
2. B is trying to get the castle ready for the midwinter festivities )it wouldn't exactly be Christmas, most fanfic writers use things like solstice or just a midwinter celebration). R doesn't see the need since he isn't much for celebrating .
3. B in contrast loves it- her favorite time of year. She just wants thing s to be perfect.
4. R just snaps back about what he really wants right now )her work done), and teleports/zaps her away.
5. B , thinking she is alone , talks to herself later in her room, wishing the perfect celebration
DREAM!
IN the dream, the Castle is decorated like something out of a Christmas card, thanks to magic. R is.. uncharacteristically pleasant to her. They share a warm drink and eventually dance together , with music seemingly coming from the air and the obligatory hand kiss. <3 They just enjoy each other and there's beautiful shimmering snowflakes falling outside...
B awakens to R's voice , calling her from the great hall. She wonders if all of it was a dream, when finding a tiny spark of something next ot her cup of tea.
(and unbeknowst to them both, the dream was caused by a figure like Morpheus / the Sandman)

In-universe people might call him Morpheus, like many of the inhabitants of his realm call him "Lord Morpheus", but you as the writer wouldn't refer to him as Morpheus in your prose. No one calls him "the Sandman", though.
The Sandman is a completely different character in the DC universe (The Sandman is DC) -- a human superhero from the 60s or so -- and the graphic novel explains the connection between that character and Dream. It wasn't brought up in the TV show, though, because it wasn't important and most people don't know about the real Sandman character. No one, neither a writer nor a character in The Sandman would refer to Dream as "the Sandman", except maybe as an epithet when the character doesn't want to use his name out loud.
It's sort of like "Doctor Who". That's the name of the show, but no character calls the Doctor "Doctor Who" and you as a writer would never use "Doctor Who" to refer to the character in prose.

( I did, for a brief minute, think of Dream but thought better of it)
