A chilling wind swept down the village high street, peppering two ambling figures with dry crackling leaves. As one tugged at his jacket and zipped it closed, the other gazed at the sodden grey sky above.

"Do you know where we are, mate?" The high collar of the first man, now shut against the weather, muffled his words.

"Not at all, Will. Not at all," the second mumbled, his attention distant. Will eyed him, suspecting he knew exactly where they were, but changed the subject.

"Nice to be home, at least. This can't be anywhere other than bonny old England. Bonny, rainy, old England." Will grinned as he toed a puddle with his trainer. People called him mad, but he enjoyed this weather most of all, except when he'd had a hankering for a bit of football.

"A fair bit north of that."

"Back home, then, David?"

"In a manner of speaking." David dashed off and Will trotted after him.

They turned at the next corner and climbed a narrow road up past a few cottages to an old church. David slipped through the gate and wandered into the cemetery, past crumbling gravestones to a newer section, where many of the stones were polished and well-kept. Will caught up with him just as he stopped in front of a group all carved with the surname "McDonald" and various given names.

Will frowned. "Mate, are these your...?" He couldn't finish the sentence.

"Of course not," David snapped, then softened into a mollifying smile. "This isn't my universe or species, remember? These are just..." He shrugged. "This isn't even anywhere I know, just some village in Scotland. But I could feel the path and I just knew..." He fell silent.

Will put his arm around his shoulders. "Are you all right, mate?"

"I am." David's eyes grew distant for a moment, then refocused. "As I thought. It's All Souls' Day. 2007." He shrugged under his friend's comfort. "I was just thinking about my mum recently. Not that I have a real mum; my human mum, from the other side. I guess the TARDIS thought I should think about her more."

"The TARDIS is wise."

"He is." David returned the embrace, one arm around Will's back, and they observed the remembrance together.
