I haven't actually done a challenge in a while, so I thought I'd do this one. I started working on a story idea I had a few days ago, just the first few lines, so you won't be able to tell what the story is actually about. But this was some fun dialogue to write. I ignored the description so that I could get the dialogue out in ten minutes.
“I don’t know why I let you talk me into these things.”
With his hands stuffed in his jeans pockets as they strolled through the crowd at Camden Market, Will threw his head back, laughing. “Oh, you love it. You know you do.”
David glared at him. “We’re not supposed to be doing this. I’m not supposed to let you... I’m not supposed to encourage you to flout the physics of the universe.”
“We’re not flouting anything. We’re shopping.”
“This is a gross violation of the Laws of Time.”
“Do you know how often you say that? Seems like I violate the Laws of Time three times before breakfast. Hardly means a thing anymore, really. Once more isn’t going to hurt anything.”
“If anyone found out that we did this, that I brought you here and enabled your illicit activities, I’d... they’d... they’d wipe me from time and space. Molecular dispersal. Psst! Gone. Just like that.”
“What exactly do the Time Lords have against shopping?”

And I can imagine that depending on what you’re shopping for it’s not unreasonable for Time Lords to be against it.
I love the phrase “ flout the physics of the universe @

Date: 2024-03-26 07:52 pm (UTC)Will is shopping for a specific style of necklace, probably from a specific artist, that became popular in the current time, which is approximately right now, 2024. The David stories are set back in like 2014, so Will is going to give this necklace to his sister Beth as a birthday present and tell her that it's not even going to be invented until ten years hence, and she gets to wear it for ten years beforehand. So it's not really against the Laws of Time, but it certainly is a shenanigan.

Edit: Changed my mind. I pulled out all the description and tightened the dialogue... and it just didn't work. Without knowing they're in Camden Market, Will saying that they're shopping just doesn't make sense halfway through, and then the ending doesn't have much punch. :P
