This is not so much a full story as a case of "I had an idea today while getting my nails done and didn't want to lose it." So now you get it. Again, this isn't much and I actually do that thing I saw a Tumblr post recently ask about wherein you're drafting and put notes in parentheses like )FIGURE THIS PART OUT LATER) or (Add smell)
Anyway...

<i> The setting is the Enchanted Forest, pre- First Curse. Rumplestiltsking (for simplicity, he's going to be either R or the Dark One for most of this_ has been asked to a ball and in a surprising moment of kindness, asks Belle to accompany him.
Using his magic, he *poof* 's her something to wear (picture the iconic yellow dress from Beauty and the Beast)
Belle is surprised and excited- she hasn't been to a ball in years now.
At the ball )Describe the ball), everything is wonderful and elegant until someone cuts in to Belle and R's dance. The someone proceeds to casually flirt with Belle and ask her things like how the Dark One could keep someone like her locked up.
R witnesses this and... things escalate. It doesn't exactly end well for the other guy.
Back in the carriage on the trip home, R and Belle talk. She is not exactly pleased with how he acted, asking why . R says so,mething about protecting her or protecting his asset. Belle wonders if this means he actually cares for her.
Back at their castle, they finish their dance that got interrupted.
(Figure out a good foil for R, since at this point canonically Gaston is basically dead)
